“True medicine doesn’t begin in the bottle — it begins in the lineage.”
Authenticity in Hawaiian healing cannot be imitated — it must be inherited, practiced, and lived. The heart of Hawaiian Rainforest Naturals lies in its lineage: a direct transmission of wisdom from the kahuna (healers) who carried ancient teachings into the modern world. Every flower essence is part of that living story — a continuation of spirit, love, and respect for nature.
Hawaiian Rainforest Naturals stands upon the foundation of teachings from two great Hawaiian healers: Kahuna Morrnah Nalamaku Simeona and Papa Henry Auwae.
Morrnah Simeona, recognized as a Living Treasure of Hawai‘i, was the modern channel of Ho‘oponopono, the practice of reconciliation and forgiveness. She taught Joy Johnson that healing begins in the heart — through prayer, self-cleansing, and connection to the Divine.
Papa Henry Awae, a respected Kahuna Lapa‘au from Hilo, carried forward the lineage of La‘au Lapa‘au (Hawaiian herbal medicine). His teachings emphasized respect, ceremony, and the spiritual relationship between healer and plant.
“From Morrnah we learned forgiveness. From Papa Henry we learned protocol. Both taught us that aloha is the medicine.” — Joy Johnson
Every HRN essence carries the teachings and energy of the kahuna who trained its founders. Lineage ensures that the medicines are created in the spirit of true Hawaiian healing — guided by prayer, permission, and integrity.
Joy Johnson began her journey in healing under the guidance of Morrnah Simeona. Through years of study and service, she became a respected practitioner, teacher, and co-founder of Hawaiian Rainforest Naturals. Her deep connection to prayer, protocol, and forgiveness shaped the foundation of HRN’s approach to flower essences.
Joy’s wisdom created a bridge — preserving the sacred while inviting others to learn and heal through aloha. Her presence in the rainforest and devotion to ethical creation made HRN a trusted name in vibrational healing long before it was widely understood.
“Healing is an act of remembrance — remembering that we are not separate from creation.” — Joy Johnson
Joy Johnson, co-founder of HRN, trained directly with kahuna healers and carried their teachings into practice through decades of devotion and respect for Hawaiian protocols.
For Melia, healing became a calling the moment she stepped into the Puna rainforest. Guided by her mother and teachers, she entered ten years of solitude, meditation, and service — learning to hear the voice of the plants and the pulse of the land.
Through that deep relationship, she began creating flower essences — not through formula or theory, but through listening. Each plant, each bloom, spoke its message, revealing what emotional or spiritual imbalance it could help heal. This intuitive process continues today in every HRN essence.
“The plants and I are in conversation. I don’t make medicine alone — I make it with the forest.” — Melia Goodenow
Through meditation, intuition, and guidance from both her teachers and the spirits of the plants. Her process honors ancient Hawaiian protocols while allowing nature’s intelligence to guide every creation.
In Hawaiian culture, lineage (mo‘okū‘auhau) ensures that knowledge is passed through heart and practice — not imitation. Each HRN essence is connected to a real transmission of wisdom, carried through ceremony, mentorship, and years of devotion.
Without lineage, medicine risks becoming hollow — disconnected from the sacred energy that gives it life. With lineage, every remedy holds mana: the spiritual power of truth, tradition, and aloha.
“When medicine is made with permission, prayer, and lineage — it remembers who it is.” — Melia Goodenow
Lineage connects the medicine to its roots, ensuring HRN’s flower essences carry authentic Hawaiian energy and spiritual integrity.
Today, HRN continues to grow as a trusted source of Hawaiian flower essences worldwide. Yet at its heart, it remains a small, family-led practice grounded in humility, service, and care for the earth.
Melia teaches workshops to help others connect with nature and listen to the wisdom of plants, just as she was taught. In every class, she shares the protocols, prayers, and respect that form the foundation of Hawaiian healing.
“Our lineage is alive — and as long as we keep creating with aloha, it will continue to live through every bottle, every prayer, every person touched by this work.” — Melia Goodenow
